There’s so much pressure when it comes to decorating your home, wouldn’t you agree? It’s not something that happens that often anyway. Unless, of course, you’re willing to spend a whole lot of money on remodelling but that’s an entirely different story. And because it’s such a rare occurrence, there’s always that looming thought of getting everything right because who knows when you’ll get the chance to redo it in the future.
And this is where it all gets overwhelming. Every time you waltz your way into shops, there are lots of things that catch your eye. So many things you want to get, so little money to do it. Plus, you probably don’t need two different sets of dining tables anyway. That’s all a bit extreme. So how do you narrow down your choices? Well, it’s fairly simple really and I’ll be guiding you through the process in just a bit.
How Can You Decorate Your Home?
Even with the ever-changing nature of design trends, there are a few fundamental decorations that have managed to stand the test of time and solidify their place in every home. What exactly am I talking about? That’s a very good question with a pretty clear-cut answer. If you want to know the secrets to create timeless and elegant décor styles, all you have to do is read through our checklist of items that never go out of style.
Wall Prints
There’s no better way to freshen up your space than by adding a bit of art. Regardless of all the changes in design trends that occur over the years, art continues to go down its own path. When you think about it, there’s a reason why you’re able to see art prints donning the walls of homes even decades ago. This form of interior décor doesn’t have an expiration date and it’s certainly not slowing down even today.
With that in mind, perhaps one of the most interesting things here is the sheer versatility and freedom of choice. Not surprisingly, wanting to include stunning poster art in your home is only the first step of many since you have to think about what kind of style matches your taste. So whether you’re a fan of intricate landscapes and colourful nature or maybe you want to marvel at a few bold and striking abstract masterpieces, there certainly won’t be any shortage of options that you can choose from.
Apart from the design, another important thing you should think about is the build type. Basically, there are two main options here – framed and unframed poster art. If the name isn’t already a dead giveaway, framed artworks come with an additional supportive encasing whereas their unframed counterparts come up short in that department. That’s not saying that the latter is less durable or sturdy as a result but you’ll probably have to be extra careful in the way you handle it. The decision is entirely up to you.
Lighting
These days, there’s much talk about how important it is to have proper illumination in your home. This isn’t all just for show though, it’s actually a well-founded idea since stylish and contemporary lights that are bright enough for your space are the key to making your home feel more pleasant and welcoming. If we’re all being honest, we’d rather not linger for too long in poorly-lit or dark areas since they’re a real letdown. You definitely wouldn’t want your guests to feel that way when they walk through your door, would you? Evidently, your home lighting design can really define your interior.
In any case, your task will be to pick out your absolute favourite from the multitude of shapes, sizes and designs that are available nowadays. Let’s break it down real quick – when you think about contemporary lights, your mind instinctively skips those old-fashioned, chunky chandeliers they used to put up back in the day. While that’s definitely a logical way of thinking, it doesn’t fully eliminate the prospect of chandeliers. In recent years, those kinds of lighting fixtures have gone through lots of changes in order to fit in with all the modern interior décor styles. So if you really want to get a chandelier, there’s absolutely no one there to stop you.
On the other hand, one type of fixture that has virtually become synonymous with effortless sophistication. If you haven’t guessed what it is, I’ll give you a push – I’m talking about pendant lighting. It comes in many forms, whether it’s a single rod hanging from the ceiling or multiple extensions going in all sorts of different directions. Doesn’t that sound exciting?
Rugs
Now that we’ve covered both the walls and the ceiling, the only thing left to do is decorate your floors. It’s safe to say that walking on butt-naked floors can be quite uncomfortable sometimes, don’t you think? Your feet are already tired and swollen from walking around all day and there’s really no reason why you would put them through even more hardships. Instead, give them a break by laying down a few comfy floor rugs that will provide the necessary padding. Most models have a fuzzy and soft exterior which makes them a cosy surface to walk on.
The best thing here is that you can literally put a rug anywhere in your house for an instant upgrade. Maybe you want to add a bit of colour to your living room by placing something under the coffee table. Or you could be looking for something simple to complete the look of your minimalist hallway. Whatever your reasoning is, floor rugs will surely deliver and you won’t be disappointed by the results.
Word of advice – pick a rug that complements the colour scheme and design pattern of all the other aspects in the room. In this way, you’ll create the illusion of having more depth and definition which will result in a more structured appearance. Plus, the art of accessorising lies in matching all of the details in perfect harmony to create a more cohesive blend of patterns. But make sure you don’t go overboard with the colours because then you run the risk of looking tacky and missing the whole point.
